The main bus station is hard to miss and is found at the northwest corner of the port, on the Place Bernard Cornut-Gentille. There are regular bus services through the town and into the suburbs and outlying villages. The east bound train takes visitors to Monaco, Italy and beyond. The west bound train service takes voyager on to Marseille, Lyon, and Paris, It is easy to rent anything from bicycles to scooters, from family saloon cars to 4X4s. Being Cannes, you can also opt for a Rolls Royce if you so choose. Of course ID is required, a valid driving license and in the case of a Rolls or Ferrari, a healthy credit rating. Taxies are common and you can expect drivers (as you may expect from a resort town) to understand directions in many languages. When in doubt, point to the destination on the map. All transportation prices are of course expressed in Euro. It is the French habit to place the currency symbol AFTER a figure, for example, you might find a plat de jour (the daily special) at 22 €. The Tourism Office is a good stopping off point for all kinds of travel information, including special excursions and coach trips. Hotels and guest houses all contain French and multi-lingual leaflets detailing special trips and events. |
