La Croisette
La Croisette remains one of the most famous promenades in the world. Its three kilometers follows the curve of the bay and is always choc-a-bloc with strollers and sightseers. A brief ramble reveals exotic gardens, palm trees (the palm leaf is the symbol of Cannes), umbrella pines and more. It is possible to take a brief diversion into one of the many side streets where there are art galleries, jewelry stores and designer clothes shops. Some of Cannes more exclusive and famous hotels may be found along this boulevard - these will be where many of the film stars are found during festival time- although some prefer to hire villas in the surrounding hills. Some hotels are in such demand that rooms (during film festival times) are often booked years in advance. The stroller probably can't miss (during summer time) all the roller bladders and posers in tiny beachwear wearing their de rigueur designer sunglasses - the attitude seems to be to look as if you are worth a million dollars even if you have not a cent to your name. The rambler may decide return by taking a stroll down the rue d'Antibes. This street runs the length of Cannes and is home to many gift shops, boutiques, and movie theatres.
